Uh Oh, No Heat? Here’s What You Can Do

It’s starting to get chilly out, especially at night. This means your home needs to have adequate heating so you can be warm and cozy when things get even colder a month or two from now. But the moment you go to turn on the heat, nothing happens. Oh no!

Before the panic sets in, remember that our team is here for you. There’s no need to let anxiety start to dictate your decisions, because our team is full of licensed and knowledgeable HVAC technicians who can provide minor to extensive heating repairs. We won’t judge you, we’ll just figure out what’s wrong with the system and provide home heating system repair in Gloucester County, NJ.

For any of our customers in Mullica Hill, South Harrison Township, and Elk, NJ, here are some tips you can follow when you quickly detect that your home has no heat.

Check for Safety Concerns First

If you have a combustion-fueled furnace then the first order of business is to check for safety concerns. As always, safety comes first. This could be sniffing around the system for the scent of gas, and if you do detect it (the foul, rotten-egg smell) then you’ll want to turn everything off and head outside with your family while you call our team for help.

Other problems could be with your carbon monoxide detectors. If you notice they’re off or not working correctly, then you’ll want to call our team ASAP and make sure you’re not stuck indoors with the windows closed.

Once you’ve cleared that your system isn’t unsafe, move on to the next steps.

Evaluate the Condition of Your System

Let’s talk about the condition of your system as we evaluate your options.

  • The age. Forced-air heating systems are only designed to last 10–15 years in age before they become obsolete. When we say obsolete, we mean inefficient, ineffective, and sometimes just broken. Make sure you take this into consideration when the system isn’t working this early in the season.
  • The air filter. Go ahead and change your air filter while you’re at it. This is an integral component to your system’s efficiency, and it’s a good idea to start with a clean slate.
  • The status. How does your system sound when you try to turn it on? Does it smell? Does it look dusty or corroded? These are important factors that you’ll want to relay to our team when we check on it.
  • The thermostat. The thermostat is the brain of your heating system. If it’s malfunctioning in a specific way, you’ll want to take note of it so you can tell us. Perhaps it’s flashing an error code or it’s not turning on at all.

Discuss Your Options With Us

Next, call our team so we can talk about your options. A replacement might be a good idea if your system is old or in especially rough shape. Otherwise, we can be there in a jiffy to diagnose the problem, fix it, and leave your home warm and cozy for the months ahead.
